If you’ve been wondering what it takes, we offer you a brief overview of the steps needed to become a Scuba Schools International (SSI) Open Water Certified Diver.

Step 1: ACADEMICS

Start your scuba diving adventure today with our top-rated certification training program.  At your convenience, and in the comfort of your own home, take the first steps to becoming a  certified diver with our at-home study portion of the program. Review the provided student manual, watch the DVD, utilize the interactive online information, complete the study guide, and take the final exam.

After completing the at-home study, your SSI Instructor will work directly with you to ensure you are comfortable and confident in all scuba diving concepts, reviewing your academic knowledge as well as knowledge of your scuba equipment.

Step 2: POOL TRAINING

You can’t gain the necessary skills without getting wet! After academics are completed, it is off to the pool with your SSI Instructor to gain experience, learn safe diving procedures, develop good dive habits, become more comfortable in the water, and build confidence in your diving skills.

Step 3: OPEN WATER CERTIFICATION

Here’s where the real fun begins! After successfully completing all necessary course work, you and your SSI instructor will undergo a final “test,” putting your knowledge and skills to work in an open-water environment. From lakes, to oceans, quarries, to rivers....now is your chance to shine, enhance your comfort and confidence, and begin a life-time of underwater exploration!
